We’ve been lucky enough to meet Tori and Charles in our series introducing you to EDDF board members. And, today we meet a new board member working hard behind the scenes to spread awareness of sarcoma and EDDF! Francois Dewberry tells us about his role on the EDDF board.
Eric D. Davis Sarcoma Foundation (EDDF): Tell us about yourself:
Francois Dewberry (FD): I currently work for Travelers Insurance as an Account Manager. I don’t have any biological kids, but I have three Godchildren. Nia Davis, the foundation President, and Maximus and Maxwell Everette. While not working at Travelers, I sing with the Dallas Opera, Zumba to stay in shape, Swing out dance, Salsa dance, Ball Room dance and just enjoy life with a host of family and friends.
EDDF: How did you get involved with the Eric D. Davis Sarcoma Foundation?
FD: I was asked to join the foundation by my Goddaughter and President of the foundation, Nia Davis. Nia’s dad and I met in college where her mom, Zanetta Davis, and I both attended.
EDDF: What are your duties on the board?
FD: My duties include, but are not limited to, promoting public awareness of the EDDF services and activities throughout the community.
EDDF: Which event or initiative are you looking forward to the most this year?
FD: I was looking forward to the Zumbathon, which happened in March. We had an awesome turnout and a number of individuals have already approached me about the Zumbathon for next year. As a matter of fact, the participants in the Zumbathon had such a blast, they requested we do another one this year. A great time was had by all while each individual became more aware of sarcoma. I was amazed by the interest that was taken to learn more about sarcoma and how they could help us in our battle.
EDDF: What are some easy ways for people to support EDDF?
FD: People can simply start by logging on to our website to read our story and to learn why the foundation was started. After that they can become volunteers for any future events. They can even donate any special talents or gifts that they may possess.
EDDF: What unique quality do you bring to EDDF?
FD: I bring my personality, which is unlike any other. Any of the board members would agree (smile). Also, I bring my ability to meet and chat with anyone. I don’t know any strangers, which is useful since we want to appeal to all audiences.
EDDF: Why are you proud to sit on the board of EDDF?
FD: I know I am making a difference. Not just in the lives of Nia and Zanetta, but to all who have or may come in contact with sarcoma or any types of cancer. I’m proud that this organization as well as others like it brings hope to cancer patients. It makes them feel like I’m not in this alone and there are actually people out there who care about finding a cure for this dreadful disease.
