As the Foundation prepares for our first annual Sow a Seed Gala, I am reminded why we started this foundation in the first place. True, there are already many others in the sarcoma fight, so what could we bring? If there is one common thread among those of us fighting for a cancer cure, it is determination.
You have to be determined to continue to fight when it seems like this is a never-ending war. The casualties have been high; yet there have been battles won. We entered the sarcoma fight out of need. A need to drive awareness for this rare cancer so those fighting it do not feel alone; a need to provide a diverse voice that reflects the reality – sarcoma impacts all races, all genders, and all socieconomic backgrounds.
Turning Grief into Action
It would be easier and simplier to just retreat in our grief, but we are determined to make sense out of Eric’s battle and inspire others through his fight. The fact is despite the progress we have made, most of us still have not heard of this rare cancer. This means there is room to do more. We don’t claim to be experts. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we do claim to be determined.
Sow a Seed Objectives
Our goals are small and our objectives simple. For this year’s gala, we simply want to:
- Increase Awareness about Sarcoma
- Encourage Action
- Ask that you Give purposefully
Let the countdown begin!
