Today we meet Wendy W. who comes to us from England. Wendy is 51 and has Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma. This is her story…
Eric D. Davis Sarcoma Foundation (EDDF): Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Wendy W. (WW): My name is Wendy and I now live in Thornton in Lancashire but originally I am from Northumberland. I work for Lancashire Constabulary, from Blackpool office as Training officer delivering training to Police Officers as well as sorting all training. I enjoy walking, swimming, generally keeping myself fit. I love cooking and baking including cake decorating.
EDDF: What type of sarcoma do you have?
WW: Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma
EDDF: How did you first detect you had sarcoma? How old were you?
WW: 51years old, I collapsed at work with pain in my pelvic area
EDDF: Tell us about your experience with sarcoma and sarcoma treatments
WW: I had the tumour removed in February then intense radiotherapy every day for 6 weeks
EDDF: Where do you stand now?
WW: At the moment I am clear but I am aware it can come back very quickly, I go for tests every 10-12 weeks.
EDDF: How do you recommend others help out their friends or family battling sarcoma?
WW: If the family is just there for support both physical and emotional support … It is friends and family that help you through it.
EDDF: What quote or saying has helped you through this journey?
WW: Positive people get positive results and the best men win!! Or my cup is always half full and there is always someone worse off!
EDDF: How do you stay positive?
WW: Just think good things and positive things …. Don’t allow myself to get down …..
EDDF: Anything you would like to add?
WW: It is a very difficult time for all the family …. Best to stay focused and set goals …..
